Franny and Zooey is a compilation of two short stories written by J.D. Salinger, originally published in the New Yorker and later compiled as a novel to be published in September 1961.

The novel is a work of fiction and explores themes of spirituality, coming-of-age, academia, adolescence, obsession, trauma and family. The plot is shaped around the spiritual crisis of early-twenties Franny, who remains on the family couch in a state of despair and existential confusion for a majority of this story.

These cover concepts call new generations of readers to see their adolescent conflicts reflected in a timeless novel.

Direction #01
Fonts: Custom title font, Alkalami
This direction was inspired by angular, playful “googie” fonts developed in the 1950s and 60s. The asymmetric cutouts that expand from the title type are reminiscent of childhood crafts - and a reflection of Franny and Zooey’s adolescent immaturity.
